Minamic reviews "Cop Out"

I wonder if Cop Out was the result of rehashing a Die Hard sequel movie script that never saw the light of day?
Or maybe I'm just saying that because it's Bruce Willis.
Ah, what should I say? It's supposed to be a comedy about two happy-go-lucky undercover cops; their ways are too radical and impulsive that they get a temporary boot from their department. But while coping with the changes to their once-everyday life, they inadvertently stumble on the bad guys. Through a baseball card. Except for that last part, I think I may have seen this plot line before. Oh yeah, of course, in the end they save the day.
The film is funny enough when you could understand some of the mumblings spewing out of Bruce Willis' sidekick, Tracy Morgan. But then again, I'm quite easy-to-please, humor-wise, so I'm not sure if I'm a good judge of that. I kind of like how Bruce was just chill, engaging in deadpan retorts and follow-ups, not so far off from his Die Hard character, while his partner took care of all the over-exaggerations and the clamoring for comedic timing. I think he was comfortable giving someone the spotlight for once.
Pluses for me: Seann William Scott. Who got a tad big, what has he been doing to himself? And the little kid. He steals the entire movie for me. "I'm 11 and I've got a better phone than you do." I love the moment when he steps out. It is priceless.
Minuses: Cliché Latino bad guys. The collectibles were a unique quirk--even goons have their hobbies... it humanizes them a bit--but they looked like they were borrowed from a CSI Miami set. I was half-expecting Horatio Caine to pop out and put on his infamous shades.
In totality, the film was entertaining enough. But probably not something I would actively go out and see. I'd wait for it to come out either on DVD or HBO.
Rating: 5/10 Baseball cards, most of which are probably common.
